Would you shake the dice with your daughters, Tom?

Thomas Friedman has a column today in which he states his admiration for Bush's "audacious shake of the dice", Bush's project to remake the Middle East by invading Iraq and rebuilding Iraq's with a different model, even as he questions Bush's competence.

As I recall from reading his column in the past, Friedman has two daughters in public school in Maryland. Would he be so quick to admire this shake of the dice if one of them was a student at Baghdad High, and the other was a U.S Army Apache helicopter pilot? It reminds me so much of the arrogance with which
The Best and the Brightest
of Kennedy's government assumed that they could remake Vietnam according to their wishes, even if it mean ridding Vietnam of their own troublesome knight, the American installed Diem.

Robert McNamara spent 20 years at the World Bank doing penance for his hubris in the Vietnam War. I wonder what Thomas Friedman will do for penance?
