According to the headline of the story I saw in McPaper this morning on the way to work, "U.S. will wait out N. Korea situation No military response to next nuclear step" The Bush policy towards North Korea, one administration official is quoted as saying, is that they have decided they "won't do anything." See the latest posting from Josh Marshall as to why that is a terrible idea. But as importantly, I want to understand: why is our policy towards North Korea so different from our policy towards Iraq? Is it just that Hussein tried to kill Daddy, while North Korea only kidnapped hundreds of Japanese citizens and lets millions of its own die? What is the difference here?
As someone living within range of a North Korean nuclear tipped missile, I am seriously wondering.
