The latest Disney scandal: Disney is refusing to let Miramax distribute Michael Moore's new movie about Bush's failures on the war against terrorism, Fahrenheit 911. According to the NYT:
Mr. Moore's agent, Ari Emanuel, said Michael D. Eisner, Disney's chief executive, asked him last spring to pull out of the deal with Miramax. Mr. Emanuel said Mr. Eisner expressed particular concern that it would endanger tax breaks Disney receives for its theme park, hotels and other ventures in Florida, where Mr. Bush's brother, Jeb, is governor....
Mr. Moore said the film describes financial connections between the Bush family and its associates and prominent Saudi Arabian families that go back three decades. He said it closely explores the government's role in the evacuation of relatives of Mr. bin Laden from the United States immediately after the 2001 attacks. The film includes comments from American soldiers on the ground in Iraq expressing disillusionment with the war, he said.
CBS refuses to show the MoveOn ad during the Super Bowl, Sinclair forbids broadcast of names of American dead in Iraq, now Disney is refusing to let Miramax distribute Michael Moore's new movie, Fahrenheit 911. Anyone else see a pattern here? I guess there are a lot of things that America's media conglomerates don't want us to see, even if it will cost them money (Moore's films are consistent money makers) to deny us citizens our opportunity to see it.
I'm sure the movie is quite partisan, as was the MoveOn ad, but I thought that conservatives believe in letting the market decide -- but it appears that some people's money isn't good enough for these companies. It is pretty clear who the media conglomerates think will be (or who they want to be) controlling the FCC, the IRS, and Florida after the next election.
How anyone can still subscribe to the myth of the liberal media astounds me.
