Dr. Jiang Yanyong released from custody

I was delighted to hear today that the strength of public and party opinion was such that Dr. Jiang Yanyong was released from confinement, although he still seems to be under house arrest. The NYT is running a good story today on his release, with this interesting quote at the end:

But in a letter sent to his wife last week, he said he now intends to tackle another medical emergency that officials have only begun to fully recognize.

"When I get out, the next thing I will direct my energies to the problem of AIDS," he wrote.

It would be great if someone actually starts working on the problem of AIDS in China, so that 10 years from now it doesn't look like Africa today.
