Writer's delight

PhotoMatt links today to a brilliant site, Opening Hooks, which has a database of opening lines to books. That is a subject I have always loved, from the bad to the great, my all time favorite being:

Aujourd’hui, maman est morte. Ou peut-être hier, je ne sais pas. J’ai recu un télégramme de l’asile: "Mère décédée. Enterrement demain. Sentiments distingués". Cela ne veut rien dire. C’était peut-être hier.

Albert Camus, L'Etranger

Somebody had already put the quote in, in the English, which is much inferior to the French, so I remedied that omission.

What a great idea. If there is one thing that bloggers have in common, it is that they are writers, in most cases wanting to be better writers. What a fun way to help them, mobilize them, and energize them, all at the same time. Congratulations, Noah Feldman, whoever you are. And I hope you put search in soon.

My apologies, but my web hoster has turned off commenting, due to a flood of obscene spam bringing the server to its knees. I hope to have this weblog transitioned over to Wordpress in the near future, so that I can have commenting up and working again. Until then, please feel free to send me your comments via my email contact form.. Please ignore everything below this comment.

Your wish is my command. There is now a search feature. Keep an eye open over the next week or so for a whole bunch of added functionality.
