I never thought that I would be congratulating Microsoft Corp, but they announced on Monday that they were teaming with 30 other major U.S. companies to support a University of Michigan minority student admissions policy.

Why live in Seattle if you can live in Portland, OR or Vancouver BC
An interesting article on what Portland and Vancouver have done differently to be more livable cities. There's still all that rain, though. Article courtesy of RKB.

Yet another weblog dedicated to Google
People really care about Google, don't they. It's starting to turn from a cult to a mainstream religion. This weblog looks informative, but it's a lot more than I want to know.

Do you know anyone who uses pMachine?
I keep on thinking of trying pMachine, because it looks good, it has some stuff (a gallery and a discussion board) that MT lacks, and it is written in PHP, which I can hack around in. The only problems are that investing in yet another kind of blogging software doesn't make much sense, and I don't know anyone who uses or hacks around with pMachine the way people do with MT. When is organic not organic? The best law money can buy
Buried within the $397 billion spending bill passed last night by Congress is a provision that would permit livestock producers to certify and label meat as "organic" even if the animals had been fed partly or entirely on conventional rather than organic grain. Via IP

Under the proposed amendments to the USA PATRIOT Act, if law enforcement officials judge a situation to be a terrorist matter, any American involved would be -- according to a Democratic congressional staffer -- "essentially exempted from the Fourth Amendment," which is supposed to protect against unreasonable searches and seizures.
